On Saturday, Stephanie, Jessica and I took a “field trip” to the Fair at New Boston. First of all, the weather was perfect!!! Sunny and warm, but not too warm…just perfect!!! Second of all, the food was AMAZING!!!!! I’m pretty sure that you could sample all of the food there and never get past the food vendors! And the shopping? A reenactor’s paradise to be sure! While we were there we visited the Native village. Wow!! While we have talked before, it led to more discussions about how to better demonstrate an showcase the “Indian Camp” at the Fort. We would love to see more demonstrations during the annual Siege and more structures….even lean-tos. I’m betting that our Fort Family that portrays Natives have some awesome ideas, and we would love to hear them! If you have never visited The Fair at New Boston (http://www.fairatnewboston.org/), put it on your calendars for next year. It is an awesome event! If you have any ideas about building up the “Indian Camp”, talk to us! I won’t make any promises, but we can certainly dream and look into ways to possibly make some of those dreams come true!

(This blog was originally posted on WordPress. -- Deb) What an exciting summer this has turned out to be at Fort Randolph! The Siege of Fort Randolph, held annually on the third weekend of May, was great! We had many old and new reenacting friends join us for the weekend. While we again focused the drama on the killing of Chief Cornstalk and then subsequent siege of Fort Randolph, we had a great portrayal of Cornstalk from a first time reenactor visiting the Fort. Thank you, Griffin!! (Thank you, Eddie Lowe for the wonderful picture!!!) We have also had three seminars this summer, something new we are trying at the Fort. In June we had two seminars, the men learned how to make a hunting pouch, while the ladies learned about native culinary and medicinal plants. In July the ladies had a seminar about 18th century breads and spreads where we learned to make sweet and savory butter, how to feed sourdough, and explored making fry breads with different types of flour. At each seminar, a wonderful lunch was prepared for participants by Stephanie, and her daughters Carol and Jessica. We are looking forward to our fall activities, including a ladies seminar where we will be making a muff, participating in Battle Days at Tu-Endie-Wei State Park, Harvest Fest (where there will be a knife making seminar and a blanket coat seminar), and Christmas on the Frontier. For a full schedule of activities, please see our website (https://www.fortrandolph.weebly.com), or find us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/fortrandolph/ or https://www.facebook.com/fortrandolphladies1777/)
Please come and join us at the Fort! |
